This policy covers the Woodshed website at woodshed.aphvn.com, the web app at woodshedapp.aphvn.com and the Woodshed apps for iOS and Android. Woodshed is made by APHVN Limited, a company registered in England and Wales with company number 15968200. APHVN Limited is the data controller for your personal data. You can reach us at woodshed@aphvn.com.
The short version
- We use the songs you import to split them and help you practise, and nothing else.
- Your songs, stems and recordings are private to your account. We never publish them.
- We never sell your personal data and never use your audio to train AI models.
- Delete a song or your account and we delete the files.
1. What we collect
What you give us
- Account details: your name, email address and profile picture if you sign in with Google, Apple or email. You can also use Woodshed as a guest.
- Your audio: the songs and videos you import, the stems we separate from them, the analysis we produce (beats, key, chords, sections, lyrics) and the takes you record.
- Practice data: setlists, loops, mixer settings, the instruments and goals you choose, and practice time.
- Purchases: what you bought, when, the price and your country. Card details go straight to the payment provider and we never see them.
- Messages: anything you send us by email or support chat.
What we collect automatically
- Device and connection: IP address, approximate country, browser, device type, operating system, language and app version.
- Usage: the screens you visit, the features you use, errors you hit and how long things take.
- Microphone: only while you are recording a take or calibrating latency, and only after you allow it. Recordings stay in your account.
2. How we use it
- To create your account, sign you in and keep it secure.
- To separate your songs into stems, analyse them and play them back.
- To take payments and manage your plan.
- To answer support requests.
- To prevent fraud and abuse of the free plan.
- To understand how Woodshed is used, fix bugs and improve it.
- To send service emails, such as receipts, and occasional news if you have not opted out.
- To meet our legal obligations, such as tax and accounting records.
We do not use your songs, stems or recordings to train AI models.
3. Our legal bases
- Contract: to provide Woodshed and the plan you choose.
- Legitimate interests: to keep Woodshed secure, prevent fraud and understand usage, where this does not override your rights.
- Consent: for non-essential cookies, microphone access and marketing emails. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation: to keep financial records and respond to lawful requests.
4. Who we share it with
We never sell your personal data. We share it only with the providers that help us run Woodshed, under contracts that require them to protect it and use it only on our instructions. Song separation runs on GPU servers we rent from Modal; files are processed there and the results are stored in our own storage.
- Hosting, storage and infrastructure: Fly.io, Cloudflare, MongoDB Atlas, Modal
- Payments: Freemius, Apple App Store, Google Play, RevenueCat
- Sign-in: Google, Apple
- Analytics: PostHog, Google Analytics
- Email and support: Resend, Crisp
We may also share data if the law requires it, to protect people from harm, or as part of a sale or merger of our business, in which case this policy continues to apply.
5. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technology to keep you signed in, remember your settings and understand how Woodshed is used. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Woodshed still works without analytics cookies.
6. How long we keep it
- Songs, stems and takes: while your account is open, or until you delete them. Delete a song and its files go with it.
- When you delete your account: your account and files are deleted within 30 days, and from backups within a further 30 days.
- Purchase records: 6 years, because UK tax law requires it.
- Support messages: up to 2 years after the conversation ends.
7. International transfers
Some providers store or process data outside the UK and EU, including in the United States. When they do, we rely on UK adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses so your data keeps the same protection.
8. Security
Data is encrypted in transit, stored with access controls and only available to the people and systems that need it. If we ever have a breach that puts you at risk, we will tell you and the regulator as the law requires.
9. Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, correct it, have it deleted, restrict or object to how we use it, receive it in a portable format, withdraw consent and unsubscribe from marketing. Email woodshed@aphvn.com and we reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, tell us first; you can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or the authority where you live.
10. Children
Woodshed is not for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you think a child under 13 has used Woodshed, email us and we will delete the account.
11. Changes
We update this policy when Woodshed or the law changes. We change the date at the top, and tell you by email or in the app if a change is significant.
